16–18 May 2024
Ann Johnson Institute for Science Technology & Society,University of South Carolina, USA

Pre-conference workshop: 15 May 2024

The traditional SPSP one-day workshop the day before the workshop starts, is around the theme of Citizen science.

Location

The conference is being held at the Pastides Alumni Center and the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center which are across the street from one another.

Programme

The conference website with programme and downloadable Book of Abstracts will be launched later this academic year.

There will be keynotes by Prof. Leah McClimans (professor of philosophy, and co-director of the Ann Johnson Institute for Science, Technology & Society at the University of South Carolina), Prof. Sean Valles (professor and director of the Center for Bioethics and Social Justice, at Michigan State University), and Prof. Chiara Ambrosio (professor of HPS at the Science and Technology Studies department of UCL).

Submissions (closed)

The OpenConf submission system was open until 2 February 2024 for presentations/symposia, and until 26 February 2024 for posters. You can read up on the details for the Call for Papers, resp. Call for Posters.

Registration

The registration website is now live here. The registration fee is US$150 for graduate students, US$275 for all others. The deadline for registration is May 9th 2024.

Conference accomodation and transport

Attendees will book their own travel to Columbia.

If you are flying in to the conference, we recommend you to fly to Charlotte (Charlotte Douglas International Airport, CLT) and book the Charlotte-Columbia shuttle (about US$75 each way).

The university has reserved accommodation blocks 14-18th May at Courtyard Marriot Downtown at USC (60 rooms) and Springhill Suites Columbia Downtown/The Vista (65 rooms), both hotels are US$149/night. Courtyard Marriot is on campus, and Springhill Suites is one a mile away (with a free nighttime shuttle). If people are coming for the preconference workshop they should ask to have this rate extended. Attendees can follow the links for the Courtyard Marriott resp. Springhill Suites to book at the SPSP conference rate — it will be available up to 10 April; later booking will be at the higher, regular price.

Some people will receive emails (as e.g. ‘Expo Hotel Services’), offering to book transport and hotel: This is a scam plagueing most conferences — a previous example here.
